TI introduces nine 36-Volt precision op amps for the industrial market
Three new op amp families deliver high precision, ultra-low noise and the industry's smallest packages

DALLAS, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced three new families of 36-V single, dual and quad operational amplifiers (op amp) with industrial precision. The OPAx140 JFET input op amp series features rail-to-rail output, as well as the lowest noise and widest supply range in its class. The OPAx209 precision op amp series combines rail-to-rail output and very low voltage noise density with wide gain bandwidth. The general-purpose OPAx171 family features the industry's smallest packages – up to 90 percent smaller than industry-standard packaging to reduce board space. For more information and to order samples, see: OPAx140 (www.ti.com/opa140-pr); OPAx209 (www.ti.com/opa209-pr); OPAx171 (www.ti.com/opa171-pr).

OPAx140 series

The OPAx140 series is the first in its class to provide rail-to-rail output and a quad-input version. It was designed for applications needing high accuracy and stability, such as high-impedance sensor signal conditioning, medical instrumentation and interfacing with precision data converters.

Key features and benefits:

  • Ultra-low drift of up to 1 uV/degrees C and low offset voltage of up to 120 uV provide high accuracy and stability over the full industrial temperature range.
  • 11-MHz gain bandwidth and a high slew rate of 20 V/us for use in precision data acquisition systems.
  • Lowest noise in its class, 5.1 nV/rtHz at 1 kHz and low frequency noise of 250 nVpp from 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz, enabling high-sensitivity, high-resolution systems across a wide frequency range.
  • Wide supply range of 4.5 V (+/- 2.25 V) to 36 V (+/- 18 V) and low quiescent current of up to 2 mA reduce power consumption by 13 percent compared to the closest competitor.

OPAx209 series

The OPAx209 series was engineered for fast, high-precision data acquisition applications, such as automated test equipment, medical instrumentation and professional audio pre-amplifiers.

Key features and benefits:

  • Very low voltage noise density of 2.2 nV/rtHz and ultra-low, 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz noise of 130 nVpp maximize resolution when interfacing with data converters.
  • Gain bandwidth of 18 MHz – twice that of the next closest competitor – best-in-class settling time to 16-bit accuracy or 0.0015 percent, excellent DC precision of up to 150 uV offset, and low drift over temperature for driving analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) or amplifying outputs from digital-to-analog converters (DACs).
  • Fully specified over a wide single- or dual-supply range of 4.5 V (+/- 2.25 V) to 36 V (+/- 18 V), it provides the lowest minimum supply voltage in its class, along with rail-to-rail output swing, to maximize dynamic range and flexibility across designs.

OPAx171 series

The OPAx171 series provides the best combination of features to simplify general purpose op amp selection. It is a cost-effective, low-power solution for space-constrained industrial applications, such as tracking amplifiers in power modules, merchant power supplies, transducer amplifiers and battery-powered test equipment.

Key features and benefits:

  • First 36-V op amp offered in SOT553 (single) and VSSOP-8 (dual) micro packages. The SOT553 measures 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm x 0.6 mm – reducing device footprint by 68 percent compared to the SOT23-5, the next smallest package available. The VSSOP-8 measures 2.3 mm x 2 mm x 0.9 mm, reducing device footprint by 78 percent compared to the SO-8.
  • Easy drop-in replacement of competitive devices in existing designs. The industry-standard package of SO-8 is available for the single and dual, and the SO-14 is available for the quad.
  • Fully specified over a very wide single- or dual-supply range of 2.7 V (+/-1.35 V) to 36 V (+/-18 V)  with rail-to-rail input and output swing and the highest common mode rejection rate in its class of 90 dB, which maximizes the input voltage range for use with low-voltage sensor outputs.
  • Low quiescent current of 475 uA per channel (typical) enables low power consumption for battery-powered operation.
